Dutchie the cat's arch nemesis, the introduction
It was an early Sunday morning, most people were still asleep unless of course they're those crazed "morning people" I've heard rumours about. Me? I was trying to fall asleep. I'd gotten about half way to my destination when, meh, I realized I needed a potty break first, so half asleep I stumbled into the bathroom and started hearing the oddest noises. In my sleepy state I thought to myself "Why in the hell is there a... umm... what is that? Is that a duck? outside of my bathroom window?" Now keep in mind I was half asleep and my bathroom window is about 6 feet off of the ground, I wasn't really sure where the noise was coming from. It was possible that it was outside just behind my bathroom wall, but it was also possible that the neighbors just had the tv or video games on a bit loud as sometimes that echoes into my bathroom.. Whatever it was, I figured it'd stop sooner or later, or I'd get a break from it when I went back to the bedroom....
But wait, Brian's no longer in the bedroom and umm did I hear the front door open? hmm. I know this isn't a dream. WTF? Something isn't right. Dutchie the cat, she's going insane at the window and Lister P. Cat (the P is short for Pee, a name he earned as a young cat when he managed to pee INSIDE of Brian's coat pockets) is looking rather calm on the bed. Hmm.
Brian reappears with the answers to my questions. It seems that a squirrel big enough to "eat" Dutchie has been sitting on the wire fence that lines the walkway between our complex and the neighboring one, staring right at Dutchie, and taunting her, apparently enjoying it with what Brian describes as a grin on his face. In fact he was so happy to be taunting her that it took him a bit for realize that Brian had arrived and began shaking the fence to advise him that he was on private property, disrupting the peace, and could he please move along. And he did...
Until Brian got back into the room and took off his shoes at which time the taunting chatter began again and Dutchie ran back to the window to glare at her new out of reach enemy.
I finally closed all of the windows and am hoping that this bully moves on... if he shows back up, I'll be sure to tell you how the next episode turns out. I am convinced that Lister, who like Dutchie is not allowed outside, somehow made contact with this squirrel and has paid him, somehow, to torment Dutchie, but have no evidence to back up my suspicions.
