I voted! And the economy is killing people... literally?
Like my ballot? HA! This isn't actually my ballot. California mail in, or at least LA = they send you this, you fill this out then you have a form much like a SAT kind of thing and fill in those numbered bubbles on it. For some reason the numbers always start at something like 7 or 8 then skip 2 so it goes 8, 10, 12, etc like that presidential one. Then it skips ahead to 20 something for the next group of things you vote on, then the next group will maybe be 50s then maybe 80s or 120s etc. It's odd.
Now, will someone please explain to me why Michael Bloomberg (the mayor of New York City), donated $250,000 in support of a ballot measure of redistricting in California? That makes me instantly suspicious :P Why in the bleepity bleep does the mayor of NY care about a California redistricting prop that the NAACP and some local senators are against? Hrmph. Sir, you have too much money, really. $250k to blow on a ballot measure about redistricting another state. Do you know what I could do with $250k? Hell I hadn't even heard of it so it's not like they're advertising it with your money.
We have two energy issues on the ballot. Sadly both seem to be pushed by rich people who would be the main beneficiaries of them. For the most part people of both parties, green groups, etc seem to be against them, so meh. Luckily California is pretty ahead of the curve on these issues without such measures anyway. Brian volunteered at the Special Olympics and the Santa Monica Pier this past weekend. I've already mentioned our ferris wheel is solar powered, well Brian noticed the trash cans were too. He thought to himself hmm only in California would we have umm hmm solar powered trash cans? Then he realized ohh they're trash compactors too. Yeah, we rock. Needless to say Prop 8 and Presidential campaign were the two main things worth voting on after all was said and done. Oh and farm animals were demanding cages that gave them enough room to move around in ;)
Top local story today: Man despondent over extreme financial problems kills self, wife, children, and mother in law. 6 dead. He left two suicide notes. Apparently he debated about just killing himself or his whole family and believed taking them all was more honorable... Sadly, given the economy I'm sure these stories will become more common. Which makes it all the more disgusting that the McCain camp keeps saying very openly they want to turn the page on the economy, not talk about it, they'll lose if the economy is an issue, etc. It's pretty much the only issue in the country right now. People are losing their money, jobs, health insurance, literally their lives over it. More and more people literally cannot afford to live. That's an issue, a BIG issue. I don't expect anyone to be able to fix it, but I expect you to freaking acknowledge that you're in touch with what the hell we're going through and to be talking about it daily because most of you in DC just asked the people to pay a lot of money and they were sold that plan as a fix, and now they expect you all to be out there explaining to them what is or isn't happening.

Yes, I read about the young man who shot his family. So sad.
The police on the local news seemed certain the man has no known history of violence or mental illness and as of now they're convinced his financial troubles pushed him over the edge, so quite sad indeed. Sadder, I really and convinced it's not the last such story we hear and instead just the start of a trend.
"McCain camp keeps saying very openly they want to turn the page on the economy, not talk about it, they'll lose if the economy is an issue"
I have heard the media say this as an attempt to place blame on republicans for the current crisis. When the facts our the blame out of Washington goes to the democrats. I have never heard anyone from the McCain camp say they want to turn the page on the economy.
BTW...Besides hiring Raines as a campaign advisor, which is another idiotic lack of judgment. Obama himself in 1994 led a class action prosecution against citibank for not giving home loans to people that Citi didn't believe qualified. So when you mention that "I don't expect anyone to be able to fix it, but I expect you to freaking acknowledge that you're in touch" we need to remember that the worst possible way to go about trying to fix the problem is to give more power to people that were involved in causing it.
Nah the turning the page on the economy thing to instead attack Obama, comes straight from the McCaign camp actually --
"We are looking for a very aggressive last 30 days," said Greg Strimple, one of McCain's top advisers. "We are looking forward to turning a page on this financial crisis and getting back to discussing Mr. Obama's aggressively liberal record and how he will be too risky for Americans."

I'm not talking about power really... just saying they both have questionable associations, people who have helped campaigns, etc. Hell who doesn't? If I ran for office people would find people in my past they could use against, none as nasty as both of these guys know I'm sure but still... enough for a "scandal".
Going there now is just stupid because they can BOTH get nasty if they want but why? If they want to prove they care about this country they'd be at least talking about what we care about and showing they know what everyone else is dealing with instead of throwing around he's not a good American, like me or let's not talk about what affects you let's turn the page on that and talk about how this guy's not one of us, he's a terrorist lover *gag*
I agree then, bad move by McCain.
" I've no clue how California picks the order,"
Some states use the amount of signatures turned in, some use the order of when they were turned in. That might explain Nader being last, he decided to run really late and I think he just made up that party name because I've never heard of it.
You'd think this country would have learned something from that time, but apparently not.
