Phrases I'm tired of + LA is not on fire
Besides My Friends and Joe Six Pack, here are some words or phrases I'm sick of:
"Shore up" - I don't know why, it just sounds stupid and it's used for every issue anymore. We need to shore up this, we need to shore up that. Shore up, shore up, shore up.... I'd like to go to shore, that sounds better.
"Golden parachute" - umm. Stupid saying. Just annoys the hell out of me for no real reason. Maybe because a parachute made out of gold doesn't seem like it'd work? But these golden parachutes work out pretty well? Ruin a company get rich?
"Main Street" - Oh shut up already. I'd rather you say stuff like "how it affects average Americans" or something instead of "how it affects Main Street". Main Street / Wall Street. HA so clever. Tee Hee. NOT. First of all in my home town (not LA, I mean where I grew up - Santa Maria - Farming town) Main Street? Really? Hmm so you want to help the street that has most of the crappier businesses and probably a street you'd not want to be walking on alone at night? :P Go for it, no one lived on Main Street. That's why it was called MAIN Street, it was the town's MAIN street. If you must use a street name, I'll give you mine, there's not many of them in the US I'm sure but there are two or three in LA and it'd be fun watching you try to pronounce it ;)
"Middle Class" - Actually this one doesn't piss me off, but since it doesn't have the same definition for everyone, I wish they'd just be honest and again say average Americans since that's what they mean. Maybe "You not so rich folk". Middle class isn't really defined. It pretty much seems to mean anyone, poor, average, as long as you're not living in a mansion or ohhh no golden parachute for you? You're Middle Class!
"War on Terror" - I was sick of this one on day one, now really sick of it. Everyone talks about this like it's a real war. McCain uses the word "Victory" hah. Dumbass. We're gonna "win" a war against terrorists? Ok explain this war on terror to me then and what victory is? Terrorists have always existed and always will. When you figure out how to end terrorism you let us know, until then "War on Terror" is about as effective as the war on drugs.
Also stop stealing sayings, even if they're common words. John McCain this means you. Obama built his campaign around Change and Yes we can! Now you have Change and you're answering your own speech questions with YES! Yes we will! *cough* Little bit close to your opponent's message there buddy *cough*
There are more saying issues but can't think, head hurts, not enough sleep, lazy day, can't function, gonna go curl up in bed and watch tv.
PS - LA is not on fire. While discussing the fires with friends I pointed out if you watch non-local news I'm always worried non local people will think I'm dying in a fire. Bender pointed out he wasn't worried as LA doesn't have trees except props for Movies. I told him "Lies!" We do have palm tree lined streets, not every street of course, but lots. Then I showed them this pic from wikipedia, which led to a discussion about how, despite how pretty they are when lining the streets.... Palm trees scare me :P Tall tall skinny trees that lean so much they look like they should tip over at any second? Creepy! And we're having Santa Ana winds on and off now. We had to drive around pieces of palm umm leaves? in the street to get home the other day.

"War on Drugs" - Personally I believe drugs should be legal. I think most of our violent crime comes from the fact that drugs are so lucrative. Drugs are lucrative because they are illegal. If they weren't illegal, our violent crime rate would plummet. The people that use hard drugs are going to use them whether they are legal or not. People should be free to make their own choice. Again aren't we supposed to be free? Not that I am for drugs, I am opposed to their recreational usage, but that doesn't mean others shouldn't be free to destroy themselves if they choose.
"Obama built his campaign around Change and Yes we can! "
All campaigns coming off an 8 year reign are for change. W. ran a change campaign in 2000. Funny, he actually ran on a humble foreign policy, to stop policing the world and the reign in spending. Seems like he decided to go the other way on that one. To think Obama came up with these is ridiculous. In fact, and I mean this is in as non-inflammatory way as possible, Obama's entire viewpoint that he has been pushing was stolen from Karl Marx.
“We have lost the understanding that in a democracy, we have a mutual obligation to one another — that we cannot measure the greatness of our society by the strongest and richest of us, but we have to measure our greatness by the least of these. That we have to compromise and sacrifice for one another in order to get things done. That is why I am here, because Barack Obama is the only person in this who understands that. That before we can work on the problems, we have to fix our souls. Our souls are broken in this nation. “
- Michelle Obama
“We should not say that one man’s hour is worth another man’s hour, but rather that one man during an hour is worth just as much as another man during an hour. Time is everything, man is nothing: he is at the most time’s carcass. From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs.”
- Karl Marx
