Sarah Palin is a quitter

I dunno.
She looks seriously wacked in the video.
There's speculation that there is shit heading directly for fan.

One interesting point from a poster at mudflats (great source for Alaska politics): Todd flew back from the salmon run last night.
You invest big money to do the salmon run, equipment, licenses.
It is short - will end around the 15th.
It is right in the middle of it.
Poster pointed out he and his dad didn't come back for his grandmother's funeral.
Or his brother's birth.
But Todd flew home last night.
This is not a thought-through action, rather emergency reaction.
Can't wait to find out what is up.
Yeah my initial reaction was a scandal was on the way. And it was a big giant WTF? But I dunno her spokesperson all over tv seemed to be implying she's getting offers already and not touching them / has no plans ready. I dunno... the whole thing is just so mental. If she wants to move on the more political offices she has NO CLUE about how to do it. You don't QUIT an office when you have 18 months left and expect people to forget that. Weird weird.

If there's no HUGE scandal coming, it's the presidential thing which I feel so sure about, but with her you just never know.
I have no clue what she is up to. I never disliked Sarah Palin, though I disagree with her on many things politically. She was in over her head in terms of politicking but in some ways I see that as a good thing. I don't see how this move could be political, if it turns out to be political, its just stupid. I hope it isn't a scandal, I tend to think its not. I think jumping on the scandal wagon should be taken with precaution after so many lies were out there with the trig is not her baby nonsense. From what I understand she says her reasoning is that she decided to not rerun(I agree, possibly to be on a 2012 presidential ticket), and that she doesn't want to be a lame duck so this is better for Alaska.

"And she's not running off to take care of her baby, to protect him from the spotlight. "

She never said this. You are calling her a liar, but she didn't say Trig was her reason at all. You took some things out of context. Below is the part of her speech you seem to be loosely basing this off of. She already has given her reasons(although without any real details), she is now going over what her family said when she mentioned her decision. Using the Trig needs me line as her reason for resigning is just not true.

"In fact, this decision comes after much consideration, and finally polling the most important people in my life - my children (where the count was unanimous... well, in response to asking: "Want me to make a positive difference and fight for ALL our children's future from outside the Governor's office?" It was four "yes's" and one "hell yeah!" The "hell yeah" sealed it - and someday I'll talk about the details of that... I think much of it had to do with the kids seeing their baby brother Trig mocked by some pretty mean-spirited adults recently.) Um, by the way, sure wish folks could ever, ever understand that we all could learn so much from someone like Trig - I know he needs me, but I need him even more... what a child can offer to set priorities right – that time is precious... the world needs more "Trigs", not fewer. "

" I call bullshit. " "saying we'd all call her a liar. Why? Because she is, mark my words."

How exactly would her running in 2012 make her a liar?
You're right that I took that Trig needed her and that people making fun of him as she wanted him / her family out of that spotlight. If she meant it as something else, oops bad me. But moving from a state office to a 2012 run will make that WORSE won't it? Though I've not seen people making fun of Trig to be honest. I see people discussing the 18 yr old who kind of encourages it by doing magazine covers looking all happy and perfect with the baby then preaches but don't have sex like I did because it isn't as good as it looks. She should probably lay low if she doesn't want to be talked about.

I'm totally at a loss as to what this is. My gut says it's to prep for 2012. If I'm right it's a horrible way to go about it. This is a HORRIBLE political move. If it's personal and she wants out of politics and to do stuff in the private sector then it's actually a good move for her. But politically it's a disaster.

But she gave so many reasons... hinting at stuff like "we" can do things away from political office, Trig (and family) need me, lame duck (umm since when do people leave office if they'll only serve one term), etc. Just weird.
""we" can do things away from political office"

I think she specifically said the "Governor's Desk".

"I've not seen people making fun of Trig to be honest."

She didn't say it was media at all. Just adults. I 'm not sure what or who she meant.

" My gut says it's to prep for 2012."

I tend to agree.

"This is a HORRIBLE political move"

I think it is bad. If she is genuine with the I think this is best for Alaska not to have a lame duck thing, it might not be horrible.

"If it's personal and she wants out of politics and to do stuff in the private sector then it's actually a good move for her."

I agree, How awesome(though unlikely) would it be if she left and went into raising money and awareness for children and families with autism or other disabilities?

"But she gave so many reasons"

Not really, the only "reason" she gave was the lame duck, save taxpayers thing. She mentioned that they can do things away from the governor's desk, but that was more of what she'll be doing now that she is leaving, not a reason for leaving.
Indeed she did say Governor's desk...

I was thinking of this line though "Rather, we know we can effect positive change outside government at this moment in time, on another scale, and actually make a difference for our priorities - and so we will, for Alaskans and for Americans."

That was the line that led me to believe she was trying to imply it wasn't for personal political reasons / to go prep for 2012, etc when I'm pretty sure it is. "Outside government" made me think ohh so you're saying you're leaving government? When I'm sure she's not... not really, she's just prepping. Sarah PAC anyone?

But like I said, if I am wrong and she's leaving to do other stuff where she's better suited to actually help causes she cares about or for say punditry, I'd actually give her credit for it being a good move. I don't think I'm wrong though ;) If I were a betting type I'd BET we see her right out there when primary season hits and the way they get earlier and earlier each time that should be what tomorrow? ;)
I noticed in interview with Andrea Mitchell she said people who think it was stupid to quit that they're just not listening to her reasons. More and more it sounds like she quit because of legal bills. She was putting a lot of emphasis on how much it was costing her personally to defend them. I would think as governor she wouldn't have to pay for those charges personally, guess I'm wrong.

It's stupid to poll for 2012 other than some to seem to be obvious about their intentions. On the other hand didn't some consider Sanford a potential candidate and well, look at his chances now. It's only about name recognition now and while it's likely all of those are considering running what a waster of time to poll other than to give them an idea about if they should bother running ;)
