Stem cell research rant # err I lost count...
Voters in NJ voted down stem cell research funding. I'm glad I live in California where voters care about people like me. Clearly people keep assuming they're never going to get a serious life long illness, or God will take care of it if they do. Well I have two such diseases and I'd like some science thank you very much. If I thought people were always voting no for reasons other than religious ones, I'd not be so pissy, but every anti-stem cell campaign I've seen involves the words God or church. And that's all fine and dandy but that God person and that church you speak of haven't found cures.
Well, perhaps your God gave you the ability to study things like stem cells so you could find solutions to problems on your own? And now you're failing him as you're just going to let more research go undone. Way to go NJ! And virtually every other state that's voted on this. Us hippie, tree hugging, gay loving California Liberals that are ruining this country may be your only hope... And if our stem cell research does by chance find a cure for whatever you do develop later on in life, I want you to remember how you voted and allow or deny yourself said cure based on how you've voted on this very issue otherwise you're a selfish hypocrite.
I'm not sure what I feel about religion. I don't claim one but clearly some things I believe scientist types would say makes me religious or "spiritual". And yet I do believe things evolve and science is very important. And if you two groups don't start working together well... a lot of us stuck in the middle will pay a high price. And by you two groups, I really mean the religious ones, because the scientists are ready to go, but they need funding.
I do have a lot of respect for religious people, I know several of you who read my entries are religious and are also just the most amazing people so I'm not trying to bash religious people... I'm not asking religious people to go donate embryos. You don't have to take part in it at all, just let it happen for us.

In NJ, very little embryonic stem cell research would be taking place anyway. So not much was lost there.
Unlike CA, NJ decided to do almost all umbilical cord blood stem cell research:
