I don't know how many of you will remember this but I posted awhile ago about David having a stroke. David basically being my uncle. It appears he created a goal for himself to create a blog to help others who have had strokes / care for those who have. A goal which he's now accomplished as he has his blog online. You can see it here.
Tonight was Avatar. I'd post about it -- but I'm worn out and am waiting for some names from Brian so I can do a proper post -- for now the short version is it was awesome. I'll do the proper post on this in a day or two. So sore and worn out.
The Muppets rule. Queen rules. Combine the two? You cannot go wrong.
If you could hang out with any movie character for a day, whom would you choose as your sidekick?

Superman!!! DUH! I could show him my Superman S tattoo. Hello.

Now then we all know that if you have a big movie you release it in summer or at Christmas time. Great. No problem. That is what is up with this movie. It was originally a summer movie and for various reasons got pushed back to Christmas. Now, our showing is no red carpet event BUT it is important to Brian. It's his work crew. So it isn't a jeans and t-shirt thing. And jeans and t-shirts are all we really have. He needed more work clothes for when he does on location things anyway. And I'd need something as I had to give away everything I had as they literally fell off when I lost the weight in the last year or two.
Now then can you guess when the mall is like less than 20 days before Christmas? Everyone is nice here, BUT woah. Parking lot HELL. If crowds give you panic attacks? LA malls are not something you should go within five miles of right now. Still I did get some packing / shipping stuff I need -- thank you Target for opening in our mall a few months ago.
Now onto the clothes. First off Lane Bryant needs to learn to take pics of clothes as these are HORRIBLE.
Well Penney's had like NO skirts except one frilly weird one. Damn. So... I tell Brian I did find a back up dress as pants seemed a last resort since it's so important to him.
That one. Now, since my weight loss, what size do I wear? Who knows. It's really varies depending on if it's tops or bottoms, who makes it, the materials, etc. Seriously there's about a 4 size spread so I never know what to try on. There was only ONE of this dress -- in the high end of the sizes I wear, earlier something I'd tried on in the size fell off of me so I was nervous about whether it would fit or not. Brian tells me that yeah that's a nice one and it would work well with the orange jacket too. Try it. I did. He loved it. And didn't mind that I got the blue hoodie already.
So I added some tights. Then I needed shoes as mine are red and black and ancient, though not in horrific shape -- yeah. So I looked at one pair that fit but just barely and weren't comfy. Ask her about a second pair, yes to my size -- no to the color I wanted. She brings out the third pair in a size that may or may not fit as it's the borderline size I can sometimes wear, sometimes can't (aka size of the first pair that wasn't quite right but almost fit) then she says if you like those pairs here's this pair too in 1/2 a size bigger. Nice! Well the pair I'd wanted in the smaller size DID fit and were comfy enough but the pair she suggested in 1/2 size bigger did too.
So I went with those Sketchers that the employee suggested. They're from their "work" shoes line. OMG. Most comfy shoes I've tried on in ages. Dressy enough for this event, casual enough for me to keep wearing everyday, and my feet were all YES, THESE!
Then we were both exhausted and needed f00d! McDonalds. Brian got a happy meal -- he was all I know this will sound odd, but can we order a happy meal and upgrade the soda? Apparently not so odd, they let him. He now has the first Avatar Toy, which is different from the toy mom got as her McDonalds first toy. They brought back the boxes for Avatar. I'm quick. Brian was saying you don't see boxes for happy meals anymore. I just said yeah they only do bags now, kids won't know of the boxes these days. Then I turned around and saw his happy meal -- OH. They brought them back for Avatar. Kids will once again know what the happy meals were like in my day.
Anyway... clothes bought. Shipping stuff bought. Bill I had to pay at the mall this month is paid. I don't wanna go to the mall again this month. This week is now just finish stuff to mail and go see the movie in above new dress and jacket and shoes!
So the good? I was crafty today. The not so good? I thought I'd be smart and work on Mom, Karina, and Krissy's presents all. Hey, why not? There's not THAT much to be done and even though I have sent mom and Karina presents, noooo problem getting their handmade presents done too. Silly me. I started to get cramps in my hands and had to stop. Had I only worked on Krissy's I'd be done and mailing hers tomorrow, err, today now I guess. Oopsie. Oh well. I did get enough done on all three that they will all be in the mail NEXT weekend as I'm sooo close on all three. Just not close enough to finish today. Mailing on the 19th probably means they get there right after Christmas. Not that I think any of them are actually very finicky about the whole Christmas thing anyway. I have a present for Misi too, but it's not handmade and I gotta figure out how to mail it... hmm.
So this weekend is clothes shopping since next week is the big day -- cast and crew screening of Avatar. Which means it's time to start skimming reviews as they've now done screenings for that. I had always joked they'd probably still be working on the movie when Keegan was finishing college -- but no, the did finish it in time for reviews to come out before the movie is due to be out. Where does one start? Brian said so far the reviews have mostly been good. So I figured I'd read some. I started with Ebert since he's been around since forever. Woah. Good review indeed. His is here. No wonder why Brian is so proud to have worked on it. Even being compared to an event like Star Wars and LOTR, I kind of nixed his idea of wearing blue face paint to the movie. Well, for me. I told him that HE could and suggested that tourists might even be amused by it. It seems like a ton of normal people have opinions too but I find that odd as none of them have SEEN it. I hate when people write reviews on things they clearly haven't seen, heard, read, etc. the item being discussed. I despise Sarah Palin -- I won't go write a review of her book (which I can GUESS I'd dislike) because I haven't READ it. That's definitely becoming my #1 pet peeve, if it wasn't already. Don't worry -- I'll see it soon then I can talking about it soon. This was Brian's big break though. I know I talked about John Adams and Tropic Thunder first. He worked on those while working at Avatar. Avatar was his first Hollywood job. It got him all other jobs, including his current job. We've been waiting for years... long weeks, days, etc. Rent paid. Yeah. heh.We owe our existence in LA to this movie.
Tea party folk are idiots. Now they wanna force the schools to have Christmas Carols or be sued. Because right now, California schools DO allow Christmas Carols if they don't promote specific religious beliefs. I loved this part of the story: "Bottom line is Christmas is about Christmas," said Erin Ryan, president of the Redding Tea Party Patriots. "That's why we have it. It's not about winter solstice or Kwanzaa. It's like, 'Wow you guys, it's called Christmas for a reason.' "
Really? I kind of thought it was about winter solstice. When was Jesus born again? You kinda stole December from Pagans.
Now I'm really confused about what the Tea Party crowd stands for. Get the government out of my life! Except maybe the public schools (aka the Government) should teach the children religious carols. That'd be good. Damn immoral sinners aren't teaching their kids Jesus stuff good enough, we gotta protect the children or they may become atheists or worse, Pagans or Muslims or Harry Potter readers! So yeah the government better step in NOW!
What one film do you think everyone should see?
Sponsored by The Official AVATAR Community on TypePad. See AVATAR in theaters December 18, 2009.Well since this is sponsored by Avatar? Avatar, since I'm biased and my bf worked on it for 3+ years. *points to all of the Avatar crew shirts she has, which are most of her t-shirts anymore* heh. I'm going to an early viewing um I forget what day. I've been assured it WILL be my favorite movie *cough*. But until then?
My must see movie is Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
. I have to watch it every few years.
I've said all along we wouldn't get a public option and now the AP is reporting that they've reached a deal to drop the public option. If we still call this reform, I have some four letter words for you all. Asking telling people like me with pre-existing conditions, in my case MULTIPLE pre-existing conditions, one of which doesn't go into remission and has no cure and costs thousands a month to treat to buy insurance like it or not = a disaster. I can afford what I am doing now. I cannot afford what you want me to do. Assholes. Oh, sorry, that's more than four letters.
*edit* Ooh but they've made it all better -- people 55 and older, but not yet 65, they can buy into medicare if they don't have insurance. That'll replace the public option. *blinks* The rest of us, get to buy private insurance or pay a fine. Which for me is gonna be about enough to pay rent at a second west side apartment every month. Grrrrrrrrrr.
*edit #2* I got THREE emails from the Obama camp and Dems asking for money to keep the health care fight alive today. SCREW you. No money from me. I'm still a Dem because my political beliefs are more Dem than Republican. It's you guys that are failing. No money from me ever again. Not until you fix yourselves.
Dear news channels -- It's a tough time to be a news junkie. It's the holidays, how about you do stories about things like charities? Our favorite this time of the year is Child's Play. I highly recommend it. It's in a few countries, it helps kids stuck in hospitals at Christmas to have a good holiday, you can't really go wrong there, now can you? For the last few years we've sent a few hundred $$ worth of toys to a hospital that way. Maybe you should suggest people do this, even if they can only afford to send one toy from a list.
Why am I suggesting this? Because I'm sick to death of Tiger Woods. I feel sorry for him. For his wife. For their kids. Neighbors. For me -- yes, me. Hey I used to like watching your debates about political and news stories and yes sometimes the rare entertainment story -- now you're the Tiger Woods breaking news networks, all of you. No, he shouldn't have to step up and speak about his mother-in-law getting checked out at the hospital for minor health problems. STFU. I maybe have to start watching soap operas. I bet I'd get more current event news stuff from them than from the news. Who Tiger Woods screws isn't news in my world. The 911 call about his mother-in-law passing out -- no, no, sorry she's fine now, that's NOT breaking news.
Now find out that a politician who is against gay marriage is having a gay affair, then we're talking. Find out that someone trying to get abortion language into the health care reform bills had an affair and paid for an abortion? Well w00t, then I wanna know who is screwing who. Otherwise, I don't give a damn. News people are obsessed with sex. Stop it. Or at least link this boring ass, none of my business story to current event stories -- like c'mon I know how you guys sensationalize stuff: Did Tiger Woods' mother-in-law come to the US for medical care? She's a foreigner getting care in OUR ER, if she can do it, imagine how easy it is for others. See out health care system IS the best in the world! yadda yadda yadda. So easy, I could work for Fox news, easy. Scary!
Love,
Me
In other news, the lack of real news has allowed me to finish reading Nightlife (Cal Leandros, Book 1), now onto Moonshine (Cal Leandros, Book 2)
. I'm actually not sorry that I bought all four books currently available at once. Nice characters. Nice main plot. Nice supporting characters. Urban fantasy with a male lead. Most I've read lately have female leads. Nice change of pace.
I broke what I was working on craft wise. Ooops. I think I can fix it, but was a good hint to stop for the day before I got frustrated.
