So MS sleep issues are still a friggin mess. I couldn't fall asleep today, err yesterday now... whatever... until about 2 or 3 or something, I lost track. Brian woke me up at 9:30. Seems I missed Palin getting heckled while I slept. Brian actually saw something political and informed me of it, this from the non voter who relies on me to keep informed even on the most well known issues of the day. BTW - I bitched at him, gave him all he needed to register and informed him if the Christian wackos win and take away my uncle's marriage I'll blame him, nothing worked he didn't register even though he's scared to death of McCain

So anyway apparently Palin said something like "My son is over in Iraq fighting for your right to protest" Brian cracked me up... Mr. so uninformed he joked "What's a Biden?" told me something like "I didn't know Iraq was threatening our freedom of speech". Politically he's still wiser than Palin. I'll never understand why people claim the Iraqi war is about our freedom of speech, etc. That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. If anything, this war has been used to take away freedoms. Please if you can prove to me that the sons of Palin and Biden and McCain and countless others are in Iraq so that I have freedom of speech I'll take this all back, otherwise she's a dumbass for saying such a thing.

More trouble for us California Hollywood Elite Liberals?

SAG calls for strike vote. If you don't feel like reading that story and don't remember what the writer strike did to my city last year, allow me to sum this up for you with one paragraph from that story:

Another major Hollywood strike so soon after last year's Writers Guild of America work stoppage would be devastating to the economy in Los Angeles, where one in 10 jobs is said to be in the creative sector. As it is, Bloomberg News just reported that foreclosures in L.A. have tripled, and a strike would not only affect those who directly work in the entertainment industry, but those who make a living off of the biz peripherally, like interior designers and architects, for example.

Brian wasn't affected by the writer strike because ______ had a completed script and was well in progress, though friends of his lost their jobs due to being on movies that still needed script writers.... _____ is filming now and could potentially affect him, if actors strike.

This is why I get so pissy when the McCain camp has bashed Obama as just some Rock Star, Hollywood, Famous... blah blah blah... whatever. I've said it before they always say California, Hollywood, San Francisco, etc as though they're the foulest words on earth. They add elite and liberal to them with such disdain that it makes me want to vomit. They make it sound like THAT state, well that state would never vote for me anyway and THOSE people there they ain't like YOU, you're real Americans, THOSE liberals out there I'd never want to go see them anyway. Well got news for you MY FRIEND, not only have we been hit as hard or harder by this crisis, we could soon be hit again by a strike that will make it WORSE. So take your California Hollywood Elite Liberalism hating and shove it, because we're screwed buddy. And you ignoring it and us and treating us like lepers as you have makes me resent you. Yup, I'm so freaking elite -- With my BF who has worked at times LITERALLY 7 days a week for weeks on end, sometimes 18 hours a day, with NO benefits. Yup. And now even though he's not in a union, he could be losing work for who knows how long. Our city could lose millions. In a state that already can't pay its bills, in a state losing jobs and homes like crazy.

We're just those stupid rich elite. Screw you. Just because you can't win this state is no reason to treat us as you have. You could have ignored us. But I watch your speeches in... I dunno Iowa, or Ohio, or whatever good down home American state you are in when you laugh about how horrible it is that Obama would dare go to California where the rich people are when you'd rather be with factory workers who really represent what America is about... I have one of them modern day tv thingies. So as my state falls apart and could get worse if this strike goes through, I remember things you've said this election. I remember that while I'm supposed to believe you're just like me, you've talked as though you hate me.

Ugh. Do not like this. Brian is torn... a strike could give him a short break and though he's not union, one way or another he would almost certainly be affected, he has enough saved up to cover a few month of rent/bills just in case this happens. They could keep his department working on art stuff even without actors filming... or... ??? We have no clue. Neither of us likes what it does to the city as a whole though. EEEk!

He's been considering looking into buying a house as prices probably won't get cheaper thanks to all of the foreclosures and the hit our market took. But now, not a good time to look with strike looming. We thought about health insurance too but realized quickly even with his income no way can we afford it for me with my pre-existing conditions (and no John McCain's idea of a $2,500 tax break wouldn't even touch the cost of insuring me). Filled out my Copaxone app, it now has in big bold letters you might not get it even if you did before as it depends on their funding etc, never used to have that warning. I'll stop taking it if denied, we can't pay $36k a year for one med. App gets mailed Tuesday as we have no working printer at home so Brian's gonna print my bank statement at work tomorrow.

Self Portrait Done

Ok I did mom’s self portrait thing already! Yeah I was quick for once. As I was working on it Brian said it resembled Karina (he hadn’t seen the latest picture of me so I showed that to him too). I reminded him Karina IS my sister. He told me he realized that but he’d never noticed a resemblance before. We do have different dads but how could he not notice any resemblance? Mom’s genes are super strong, I’m not sure that physically there is any of my dad showing in me at all, heh. Anyway, I’ll take it as a compliment, my sister is pretty.

Now I’ve decided I need another new project. Still can’t get the Misi one right, argh I’ve given myself until Christmas to finish it at least. Even though I’ve no desire to run off to see the Twilight Movie when it comes out (I do want to see it when it comes out on dvd to see what they do with it and because I am a little curious — just not curious enough to have Brian kill me which is what he’d do if I were to drag him to the theater for a teenage vampire love story) I do like some of the posters for the movie from an artistic standpoint, the colouring etc. I showed them to Brian and told him I think I want to do digital paintings of them next due to the limited colours. He said he couldn’t do it. Hmm and here I thought my art is “cheating” Now I’m challenged. So that’s my next project. Mr. gets paid to do art for a living can’t do it? And I think it’s cheating… I started one, it is actually hard to do. I’m not trying to recreate the poster image exactly. I’ve given up on pretending I can even attempt photo realism, etc…. Just going for my style. But… yeah. Now I know why Brian said he can’t do it, it’s a bitch.

Smallville was good, not as good as the premiere but still good and more promising than the last season.

Office is LOL funny as always.

Earl is... funny but I only saw half as my DVR is stupid, it only recorded first part of season premiere because, well it randomly does what it wants... for some reason, presumably the unusual schedules for the premieres -- I dunno... something went screwy, it was scheduled to record, I triple checked... whatever I need to find part two online. I hate watching videos longer than a few minutes on laptop, grrr.

ER is gonna make me cry this season, I know it. Tonight came close, awwww. Damn TV shows aren't supposed to make me emotional, they'll turn me into my mom, crying over tv shows is her thing.

Still need to watch the Boston Legal premiere, tomorrow we will watch that... it's the final season? The DVR says 5th and final season opener... I didn't realize that :(

And finally... Brian had mild foot in mouth syndrome tonight but don't think he realized it. There was a preview for the new Christian Slater show, My Own Worst Enemy. I said I might check it out depending on what it's aired against. Brian's only comment was "Wow he got old". Me "I think he's about my age". Then Brian added something about how well it was true he hadn't seen him in any movies for awhile and he hadn't gotten old during that time. Hmm, I was close, Christian Slater is only about 3 years older than I am.

My elite apartment's toilet paper roll...

Not sure if anyone has noticed this or if it's just me, but Republicans, especially from the McCain camp, tend to speak of California with a pretty nasty tone. It's never JUST California... It's always "California LIBERALS..." Or "San Francisco Liberals...." Or "Hollywood Liberals..." Or something with the word elite... etc. And a rude tone. Well
a. Hollywood pays ours bills, thank you very much.
b. Hollywood elites sign not just Brian's paychecks but also affect most of my city's economy. So while you're ruining Wall Street, they're keeping my street going, sometimes just barely...
c. let me tell you how we California liberal elitist snots live... In tiny 1 bedroom apartments :P because we can't afford anything else while paying hundreds a month for my meds and living here in expensive land -- the only place to live if Brian wants to help give you good movies to watch, k, thanks!

Now who the hell thought that putting the toilet paper roll UNDER the towel rack in said small apartment was a good idea? Why not next to the toilet? And why does Brian insist on draping his wet towels on top on the toilet paper? Some of us have to USE that toilet paper. Nothing on this planet is less useful than wet toilet paper thank you very much. I'm not sure how he does it, he takes a shower -- and the carpet on the floor in front of the shower isn't wet yet the little space between the carpet and the toilet is drenched and stays that way almost all day and the towels? Drenched pretty much in one section and then that section placed carefully on the damn toilet paper! Not just to the side of it, noooo. MEN! :P I need to hang a sign or something.

Of course I could be grumpy because I'm dizzy and phantom smells happening. I was dizzy earlier too. Went to B&N. Got Batman: Joker's Last Laugh while there, then we decided to leave when the building started spinning but just for me :/ Now phantom smell thing again twice tonight, this morning, whatever... on the bright side the tingles are 95% better vs. last week as burning tingles are gone and plain tingles are bad but better than burning tingles *nods* ~~sleep time~~ passing out, 10 am, early for me compared to last week too, w00t!

Hm this post sounds bitter lol. I'm not I'm just tired and dizzy and looking at second bad MS week in a row it appears, and come on wet toilet paper is dumber than leaving the toilet seat up, I've never asked for anyone to leave the seat down, as I know how to put it down myself, but WET toilet paper I can't dry soaked toilet paper when I need it now can I? grrrrrrrr useless! But I might have a cool drawing in progress... but oh yeah passing out *nods*

Emmys Update...

SPOILER ALERT --- Some of the awards have already been given out, including the one Brian's boss was up for (Outstanding visual effects for a miniseries, movie, or special)... and THEY WON!!!! So the first credit Brian ever had and he played a part in an Emmy award winning team! w00t! John Adams is already leading the wins too. Not surprising since it had the most nominations. Even though it's his boss who gets the Emmy, I still think it's cool, I mean he did help his boss make the Whitehouse! heh.

I guess Thomas Jefferson was elite

When we watched John Adams, I came away with a desire to learn more of Thomas Jefferson. Sorry Mister Adams :P Hmm btw when are the Emmys? September 21st, thank you Google. Must watch! If they win it'd be sooooo cool. Granted Brian's boss gets the Emmy, but I could swear Brian has since told me something like his boss said he might get a paper or something saying he was involved or something... so....I hope they win! Anyway... Jefferson is one of my heroes since watching John Adams, I'm trying to read The Life and Selected Writings of Thomas Jefferson. I say trying because being this sick week amplifies MS = arms burning tingles, head all woozy and unable to focus even on my Batman comic, etc. I did, however, read the Intro to the Jefferson book which in about 20 pages summarized his life work. I also read the first 10 pages or so of Jefferson's autobiography. This book includes his autobiography, the Declaration of Independence (original and revised), and some of his public and private letters. Yeah... not such light reading ;)

Since our election season started much has been made of words. One of the things that is most distressing on this topic is polls. Now, I know polls are meaningless. blah blah blah. But one of the poll subjects that seems most consistent no matter who does the poll, goes something like this -- Who understands the issues facing you the most? Obama wins. Same polls ask and who will you vote for? Totally mixed results. Sometimes they follow up with something like well, if Obama understands your issues the best then why are you not ready to vote for him-- they basically say they can't understand him, he sounds too smart, too "Ivy league" as the "pundits" spin it. So... we want politicians that sound like... BUSH? We don't want politicians to sound smart? We want them to sound like an uneducated moron is what people are saying? If they understand our issues but are too smart well they can't be good. I'm a moron, I'll admit that. I'm no good with history, science, math, geography, anything really.. I mean if I have to take a class I can sit down and study my ass off and pass with good grades, sure. But I'm a moron. Ask me a question about something I'm not reading about currently, not interested in, etc and oh dear... So I want someone who does seem to have an interest in the top issues of our time and who has answers, SMART answers that are above what *I* can answer.

English.. I don't like big words. This Jefferson book is going to make me feel like biggest idiot on the planet, guaranteed. BUT... it's supposed to! He was a PRESIDENT! I'm sitting on my couch in LA, typing a blog at the moment. hmm. Who should sound a bit more EDUCATED? :P

You know what scares me? If someone running for or being nominated for a TOP POLITICAL OFFICE in our country DOESN'T SOUND SMARTER THAN I DO! I have a 2 year degree from a business college in paralegal studies. One of the things I had to do during that 2 years was write a paper about Gideon v. Wainwright, a landmark ruling by the Supreme Court that a lot of you probably haven't even heard of. Well politicians always talk about how important the Supreme Court is, let's break out landmark rulings -- those ones that most of us haven't heard of but that in terms of the history of our country are recent and historical, see who really knows what the Supreme Court does / should do?

My best jobs were desk jobs. IF THEY DON'T MAKE ME SOUND DUMB, THAT'S SCARY! They'll be meeting with world leaders. I won't be speaking to world leaders. They'll be setting policies that affect not just us, but the world. They should sound smarter than I do. Should they, for the most part, speak in ways I understand? Hell yes. But if they don't sometimes say things that go over my head, they're doing their jobs wrong. If they don't sound, in ways that have been labeled as "elite" this election, I'm gonna worry.

Here's how Thomas Jefferson spoke, not how I'd say these things I must say... Perhaps he was too elite to be president too?

Life in LA...

So after living in LA for erm, years now, I just now really noticed that while we do have "BUMP" warning signs on most streets, some streets have signs that say "STREET HUMPS" I laughed. And then I noticed the "STREET HUMPS" signs were replaced by "BUMP" warning signs just before we got to a neighborhood with a church in it and I decided there had probably been a protest "I DO NOT WANT THE WORD HUMP ON MY STREET, MY KIDS CAN SEE THOSE SIGNS". Ok there's probably a totally different reason for why some parts of LA have BUMPS and some have HUMPS but I laughed anyway :P

Also since LA is anti-WalMart and has like one Target in West LA, maybe going to Target on a holiday was dumb. It wasn't THAT bad, but leaving was. Somehow we got lucky, we take freeways so seldomly that we rarely experience that horrific LA traffic everyone talks of -- when we take freeways we're usually like wow sucks to be going in the other direction right now, then on the way back same thing. But Target parking lot traffic? That'll make you mental let me tell you.

I think in general Californians have an unfair rep. They're bad drivers? Of the states I've lived in (CA, OR, NM, AZ) I find them the best, I'm the least jumpy in cars here. They're stuck up, rich, blah blah blah.. No no no no. There may be a lot of money here but the cost of living here is crazy so, ok some may be rich but the average person, pffft right probably lucky if they have a few dollars to their names. People here are all so nice, they say hi, they chat with you, they say thank you, in general they're actually far less rude than most places I've lived. BUT, Fry's, Target parking lot, and holiday city outings = they turn psycho. Or maybe we just were around all of the driver who live in neighborhoods with BUMPS instead of HUMPS? Whatever, we decided to hurry up and get our butts home because it was crazy out there.

So, I totally went through my closet and now I have a big bag of clothes to take to the charity clothing bin -- you know on a day when people are back to normal. And I realized I have plenty of tank tops and shirts but virtually no pants or shorts. Hmm. I did keep a few pairs of pants and shorts that were loose but that could be bum around the house ones because they're not falling off loose but too loose to be comfy in public. Brian "I hope you kept some in case you gain weight" I looked at him like he's nuts. These pants and shorts I am getting rid of -- I literally don't have to unbutton or unzip them to put them on, I don't move and they FALL off. What does he think I'm gonna do go eat a few cows every day? :P

A real conversation from my world yesterday..

Brian: I think I want to sign up for NetFlix, what do you think? Do you know what NetFlix is?
Me: Yeah, I don't live in a cave, it has been around for ages, I know what it is...
Brian: I don't know. I mean, I don't know what a Biden is...
Me: Well that's because you DO live in a cave. He's our next Vice President, he also ran for President, more than once, including this election... Maybe it's a good thing you don't vote.
Brian: I've been working on *insert movie name which meant LONG hours for the past 3 years*.
Me: Yeah well still I think you need to register to vote anyway, we need every vote against McCain we can get.

For the record I wasn't telling him how to vote. He may not know what "a Biden" is, but he does know what a McCain is and an Obama is... and a McCain has scared him enough to threaten enough to consider registering, where even a Bush 2nd term did not.

Hmm. Gustav is 105 MPH it was 155 when I went to bed. It was expected Category 3 is now 2 downgraded to 1 as I posted this. Just getting into news today. Though I did already see Bush shaking hands. I mean a storm is a storm but it is better than they expected eh? So are they gonna milk this and say see we did so good this time around and take credit somehow for mother nature giving us a break? Or am I just being mean and cynical here?

Brian is semi amusing

So I've been buying more veggie types of food. I'm not vegetarian, I just also like veggie burgers etc. The last few weeks I've only eaten meat on the weekend and buy stuff like Boca / Gardenburger products for at home. Well, Brian randomly announced at the grocery store this weekend, when he saw what I was getting for myself "But you're not a vegan". *blinks* I hadn't even said I was vegetarian let alone vegan. So I basically asked him wtf he was on about then rolled my eyes a lot the rest of the grocery shopping trip. Then, as we're putting our groceries on the belt I notice the meatless ribs say "Vegan" on the box, I tell him "Ok fine, but while I eat those, I am a temporary Vegan, happy?" or something like that. He said you can't be vegan while eating ribs, I point out they're meatless ribs -- soy. He looked like he wanted to vomit and I smiled. That'll teach him to tease me for eating a variety of f00d mister I can eat frozen pizza every day of the week and not feel sick. Ugh. Dunno how he does it. My only regret is he didn't come out while I was eating dinner tonight, I'd have offered him a bite ;) They're good enough but holy bbq sauce batman. Could they have drowned them in it any more than they did? I scraped a lot of it off and left it on the plate. Really way way too much for one rib, geez.

*edit* sure he comes out after I post this, asks how they were and says "I might try that sometime, but I'll say blech after" lol.
