My own mommy person shamed me by asked me how I missed posting this... yes I am a bit late, but here you go. From their description:

OH NO! A big fake quake is coming!
Fictional 7.8 quake to hit SoCal Thursday. Nice of them to warn me of a fictional quake! ;) I'll be at UCLA then getting my EEG results. Well I'll be at UCLA anyway... Never know how long it'll take to get in, if I get there at 8 I'll probably be seen at 11.
8:
Melissa Etheridge says CA can forget her taxes if she's a second class citizen.
A priest spoke out on 8 then outted himself. It didn't go over well, of course. He lost his church. He has his own blog here.
For the record, so far out of 3 major protests in LA, 1 was at the Mormon Church. Not sure why national news makes it sound like they're picking on them and are replaying the church protest clips when last night was Long Beach and Thursday was the Church?
My religious friends are very good people and don't try to force their religion on me, which is what everyone is asking for ironically - not to have the other's beliefs forced upon them. I wish religious "leaders" would take lessons from them. A religious leader (didn't catch what church) who was with the yes campaign goes on tv and says we voted on their "rights" and they lost them so just "suck it up" and that's one of the kinder responses I've seen from yes on 8 people because that one was on tv. Funny it wasn't a "right" before the election, now that it's over it's we voted on their "rights" and took them away.
The worst I've seen? Someone online actually claiming their religion knows the real discrimination, explaining why, and stating gays don't know discrimination because unlike their church members they haven't died for just being who they are... That's why you don't don't talk about a state you don't know anything about... Big open wound for this state. Lawrence King was killed in school for being... oh yeah... gay. BTW for those who know of his case, last month they ordered the accused killer to undergo a psych evaluation to determine if he's fit to stand trial.
The no on 8 leaders here aren't bashing the individuals as the yes on 8 leaders are. The no on 8 leaders make statements like since when do we vote on taking away the rights of a whole group of people? They also say things like it's ok to be religious and you can have your beliefs but your church doesn't have to marry people this isn't about your church it's about the state and they're supposed to be separate.
But people not in CA aren't seeing it all, it doesn't make for good quick national snippets. Just the quick overhead shots do. Or the one or two fights (I've seen reports that two protesters were hit so far) out of three days and thousands and thousands of people do.
For what it's worth, as long as it's peaceful I think they should protest though they should probably try to stay on the sidewalk, people don't like being stuck in traffic ;) When I see religious leaders basically taunting the gay community on tv with this we took your rights get over it snarky attitude, it's no wonder they're upset at churches. I am too. It's not just gays watching these "leaders", it's their families, their friends, concerned citizens who don't go to your churches. This is why churches should not be so involved in political campaigns but if they must be, remember when on tv the whole community is watching not just your church members.
Protesters do need to remember that it's not all religious people who are jerks.
Religious people need to remember the protesters are yelling because even in the words of religious leaders here they had their "rights" stripped from them so they're emotional.
Religious leaders need to start setting an example and not taunt people, not ridicule the fact these people did lose their rights, it's no wonder people are making such heartless comments about gays, when the "leaders" go on tv acting snarky and in ways they have to know will upset people more, they're setting great examples.
And me? I'm still not sure if there is a god/goddess/whatever but I do know the thought of mainstream organized religion is rather repulsive to me not any one specific religion, pretty much all of the mainstream churches. Not the individual members, as I said some of my good friends are religious and good people, people that the "leaders" of some of these churches could really learn a lot from. But what I've seen here has not been pretty. And if there is a god/goddess/whatever I think they'd be disappointed in how many acted on both sides, no doubt. But especially to hold yourself out as a leader and...yeah I'm going to get some sleep now before I really go off on just how idiotic these fine upstanding leaders are.
Ayers spoke on election day...
Not very likely to change much but California still has 1.6 million votes to count. The current count on 8 = 52.5% (5,376,424) yes and 47.5% (4,870,010) no. My home county of Santa Barbara said no. My current county said yes by a vote of 50.6% to 49.4% I'd like to believe a huge percentage of those yet to be counted are smart people, not bigots. That somehow we'll be saying phew, don't scare us like that again when the final count is done. It'd have to be a huge percent of no votes in that stack of uncounted ballots to put no over the top. I do think it could bring the final count closer to 50-50 though. All night I watched the live map refresh every so often and every so often I watched the yes percentage go down and no go up. In fact the LA county one got sooo close to 50-50. When I went to sleep, the last time I looked at that map until now it was more like 54-46. I'm still not ready to comment on how it came to this point. No on 8 is more hopeful than I am, they're refusing to concede until even vote is counted:

Statement by No on Prop 8 Campaign on Election Status
Roughly 400,000 votes separate yes from no on Prop 8 – out of 10 million votes tallied.
Based on turnout estimates reported yesterday, we expect that there are more than 3 million and possibly as many as 4 million absentee and provisional ballots yet to be counted.
Given that fundamental rights are at stake, we must wait to hear from the Secretary of State tomorrow how many votes are yet to be counted as well as where they are from.
It is clearly a very close election and we monitored the results all evening and this morning.
As of this point, the election is too close to call.
Because Prop 8 involves the sensitive matter of individual rights, we believe it is important to wait until we receive further information about the outcome.

They got that up on YouTube fast, I was watching that broadcast, that's live shots from my 11 o'clock news, they were still showing it happening throughout the broadcast. For now, those marriages that happened before this prop passed are still legal, only new ones are banned. I'd say more but I'm still too mad.
My map = I got Montana wrong (I went back and forth with it), Indiana wrong (for about 1/2 a second considered giving it to Obama because it's next to Illinois but then nah too conservative, silly me), NC is only one not called yet. Otherwise I was right. HA!
How did that crazy Bachmann lady get reelected? But hey Dole lost...
I think my emotions are too fucked up to post a normal post, so I'll just say...
HE WON, HE WON, OBAMA WON!!! Civil rights leaders who bled for causes before I was born who never even dared think they'd be THIS equal are crying because surely they'd never live to see this day... we're all the same... 8 is passing. But ohh look it's getting closer! Nearly 50-50 too close to call. Speeches. HE WON! It's a good day. Foreign friends telling me how glad they are. I'm glad too. So many people really seem united together... people I would think wouldn't vote for Obama... did. Just... wow. I really feel like I witnessed something... and 8 is still passing. But it's too early to call, still nearly 50-50, but some people online chanting big victory, I told them with it not being called yet and a decent percent of votes left to count and it being nearly 50-50, I'd call that a state divided not a big win. People saying don't call Obama's win a race thing, blacks about 15% of population (I think it was 15?), everyone voted for him it's not like he got the black vote and that's it a win. We're united. 8 still passing. Right up to the end of this election they talked about how liberal Californians were. I had it beat into my head I was too liberal, too anti-American, not a real American, we don't have God out here in celebrity land. 8 still passing. All equal now. All of the blood they shed was worth it, everyone is equal. 8 still passing but still too close to call.
And I'm gonna end this post, nearly 9 am (or it was, net all screwy today, couldn't post). Half of me feels like I'm on a high. OBAMA WON! And half of me is shattered. It did give me a lot of time to think about religion but I won't post that now because as I said I had a lot of time to think and if I did that post now it'd come out wrong as that part of me is the pretty upset shattered part. I do have faith that the bigot homophobics won't win in the end but for today... shattered... 52-48 LA Times has called it at least... My uncle's marriage...
I'm now seeing this ad on my tv more than I am seeing the more hateful OMFG they wanna turn your kids gay ads. YaY for Samuel L. Jackson!
Brian is wondering what the point of banning Armenians from buying land was though...
So when I watch videos or read blogs about Measure 8, I find a few of the most common arguments for banning gay marriage are the usual...
You know...
If gays can marry, what next?
Marrying a dog? Ok, if you even suggest this, you're a flipping idiot who shouldn't vote because you're too stupid to think. Dogs cannot enter into a legal contract. Despite your claims that marriage is only a religious experience, it's a contract. Dogs cannot consent to enter into a legal contract, period. No, this is not possible in our country, you brainless moron.
Marrying a child. Children too cannot enter into legal contracts. They're unable to consent under the law. Try again.
Polygamists? Ok. This argument is better. But what does it have to do with gays? Lots of straight polygamists, OMG better not let straights marry! I actually think the argument against polygamists marrying goes like this -- and it has nothing to do with gays, or religion, etc.... See marriage grants you rights like making the decisions in a hospital if your spouse is injured and unable to make their own decisions. If you have 3 husbands or wives show up and they don't agree on what to do? A life is on the line? Then what? Now, what does this have to do with two gays marrying? Nothing. Move on. Gays marrying has nothing to do with polygamy. From a legal standpoint fighting polygamists marrying is much easier than fighting gays marrying, if you're really concerned about this.
It'll make my marriage meaningless... Wow your marriage isn't worth much to you if some gay couple marrying is gonna tear it apart! Get into marriage counseling NOW before it's too late to save your marriage. If someone else marrying is gonna screw your marriage all up, you already have some big issues. When I got married (and divorced) neither me nor my ex was religious. Did that screw your marriage all up? No? Hmm... Alrighty then, how is this different?
Gays don't have to marry in your church. You don't have to go their weddings, in fact I'm sure they won't be inviting you. You don't have to like it. You don't even have to like them, they probably think you're stuck up asses for all I know. But your arguments against them? They fail to impress me. None have any legal merits. And despite the fact that you get married in your church, you go get a paper from the government saying your marriage is a legal contract... Some of you might even sign a pre-nuptial agreement -- another LEGAL contract. So go on with your holier than thou arguments, but this is a legal issue and "I believe God wouldn't approve" doesn't stand up in court.
