I found a house that Melissa and Brian might both wanna buy. Any other Doctor Who fans too. Here. Kinda afraid to show Brian. Our house might end up with a makeover and I don't watch Doctor Who. Though he could decorate it worse. It'd be better than turning it into a Star Trek ship or something.
Yeah, in case you didn't click that link -- it comes from me spending too much time at this site tonight: http://lovelylisting.com/ Man the things that people do to their houses. Namely houses they want to sell. Really matching your comforter to your wallpaper? Couldn't find matching carpet too? Something that looks like blood on the floor? Couldn't throw a rug down for the picture that you're using to try to sell the house?
Watching TYT:
TYT talking about Carrie Prejean's sex tape made me LOL.
Oh also liked TYT telling off Pat Robertson for saying that Islam isn't a religion. Video here. Cenk slams Christianity some to prove some points, so sensitive types need not watch.
Lister update:
Lister went to the vet. His ear is still being irritated. But he's still on track to have the cone and stitches removed next week. He'll be so thrilled. He's HATING the cone. Cats love sleeping but contrary to popular belief they do occasionally do more than eat, sleep, and poop. Lister is having a tough time walking around as he just crashes into stuff with the cone on, even though it's clear. He does venture out around the house, once in awhile. But yeah.. He mostly sleeps it off still. As I was waking up today he did come running into the room and jumped on the bed, taking over my pillow before I was quite ready to give it up.
NaNoWriMo:
Writing: 18,853 words so far, plan to write a little more before bed. I may have to do a COMPLETE re-write when the year is over. Ivel's story is sucking at the moment. The concept is okay but woah boy... It isn't so bad that I wanna beat myself or anything, but bad enough that I'd gonna be a 50k outline when I'm done. *nods*
Reading:
I finished A Touch of Dead (Sookie Stackhouse: The Complete Stories). I'm kind of annoyed. Not by the book, it was good. By how many fans gave it one star reviews. Apparently a lot of them read the short stories in the anthologies they've been published in before. They're disappointed. If they'd read the book description they'd know that. I did read the book description and have never read the short stories before, only the full length novels, so I loved it. *shrug* Have also gotten another 60 or so pages into Rosemary and Rue: An October Daye Novel
, which is getting way more interesting now. Yay! Want to finish it though. Am on page 200something out of 300something. Don't want to rush but have tons of books I'm excited about starting next too. Ahh. The problems of being a junkie.
Well, I still have no idea where I'll take this story. As expected, it's starting out craptactular. I actually think that later on I COULD maybe with lots of practice make it better. But for now, I'm just okay with the word count... 3,524 words so far w00t! Staying on target is good. Making it a good story later, well we'll see.
In other news, I'm still trying to come down with something. Surely swine flu since everything is swine flu. Except no one we know has it. I actually think I'm just trying to fight off a sinus infection. My sinuses have been driving me nuts since the winds were crazy and blowing dust and probably tons of other allergens around the other day.
Oh and my cat scratched my back. Cat scratches HURT.
Test results came back. Benign. No cancer. YaY! So now, just three weeks of the cone head to deal with. He doesn't like that one bit and doesn't appreciate that he just beat a cancer scare. He did, however, just try to molest Dutchie, so he's clearly feeling fine.
Books, books, books!
Sooo, Krissy gets a big public thank you today from me and probably a big &^%# from my mailman (well she and I combined get that). Why, you ask? I'll tell you. Because her birthday presents to me arrived. As did my Amazon pre-orders. I swear I heard Mr. Postman throw those boxes with a little more oomph than usual. Apparently two boxes on day makes him grumpy.
Sooo what did I get? From Krissy - Anansi Boys, Fire
, and Graceling
.
Fire and Graceling were very recent adds to my wishlist. Flukes really. See, I have this love / hate relationship with window shopping on Amazon based on its attempts to suggest things to me. Just last week it told me that I'd surely love G.I. Joe because I own Harry Potter DVDs. Erm. G.I. Joe looked like it sucked major ass. It's not at all wizard'y. How are they connected? They're both DVDs? A guy once saw both? So I try, now and then, to start following the whole this book is perfect for you lists -- because eventually I end up at one that is. How else will I find books? The best seller lists? Yeah those usually have Glenn Beck. By category it's not that much better. Sure you see thee most popular ten or so books and then what? That's often book #20 in a series. Great. Sooo when the notes with my books announced that she'd read Graceling and loved it? w00t! I love that girlie and know SHE has good taste, so apparently I did pick right. Then again, some of the books they recommend to me -- well... not much better than recommending G.I. Joe to me thanks to HP.
And my pre-orders, I mentioned before I believe, but they were: A Touch of Dead (Sookie Stackhouse: The Complete Stories) and Grave Secret (Harper Connelly Mysteries, Book 4)
. Both by Charlaine Harris, who mom's friend also loves. She met her last night and got all of her books signed.
Eeek, Lister!
Soo, I wake up at about 9 (yup still on normal people hours). I check on Lister. He's still sulking but he's good. So every 5-20 minutes I go upstairs to check on him. It's fine. Silly to check on his so much actually, he's getting annoyed, as he's just sleeping as cats do. Normal really. EXCEPT, nope... Go up, he's gotten the cone off of his head. WTF? I was JUST up there and it was firmly on his head. It's a plastic cone. How... dammit. so I have to take the piece out that holds it together, obviously. Can't just slip his head back through the hole and hurt his stitched up ear. He's not cooperating. Gonna have to get Brian home from work. Can't get this to work on my own. Finally got it rigged to hold up til Brian gets home tonight, I think. So far so good, anyway. Sooo, Lister starts pouting, the kitty version of I'm not talking to you. At pain killer time. Damn kitty. I'm trying to HELP you. His kitty drugs are slipping inside this kitty treat that tricks them into taking their meds. Nope. Even in the cone head he was snubbing me. It was quite the task forcing him to eat the damn thing. A "Treat". Cats LOVE treats. Argh. A temper tantrum. This is gonna be a fun three weeks. I feel bad for the little guy but temper tantrums from a cat aren't fun.
The only news and politics I'll give you today is what I posted on Twitter:
Public option =
Health stocks went down yesterday. Lieberman says he'll block it =
health stocks go up today. Liberman = owned by insurance.
Now then... My day. I woke up with a headache, which I still have. Lister was not yet gone when I woke up -- yes I woke up at 8 something. Gave him some kisses and snuggles. After Brian left with Lister I was gonna finally finish that wallet that I had started last week, but quickly realized my headache wasn't gonna let me be productive. Dutchie was acting odder than normal. She'd run around crying. I'd get her calm. No cat naps. I think she missed Lister.
So now that I have a FF add on which auto connects to chat programs + social network sites, Brian found me online without having to e-mail me (this is good and bad, I forgot why I didn't auto start all of these things - everyone finds you and thinks you're hiding, if you didn't message them first, etc). Anyway, seems they were worried about Lister -- he coughed. So they'd have to do a chest x-ray before surgery. And they found masses in his ears. They'd have to biopsy. They're basically checking him for cancer :/ We assume the chest x-ray is fine as they DID do his ear surgery. Get to wait for the biopsy results. My question though? They were checking his ear out before. They already drained it the other day. Surgery wasn't the FIRST option. It's only because he had it fill up again. Didn't they notice these masses on his LAST visit. Did they magically appear in a few days time? Seriously. Grrr. At least he'll be home in a few hours but with a cone on his head. Poor kitty, Dutchie's gonna hiss at him for smelling like the vet's office instead of himself AND now she'll make fun of him, even though she missed him.
So. Now the winds...
Marina del Rey
Wind: From N at 20 mph
gusting to 32 mph
Los Angeles
Wind: From N at 16 mph
gusting to 31 mph
It sounds like a horror movie outside. My doors are rattling. Oooooh. Wooooooooooo. Bells on boats are dinging. Etc.
But hey before all of that, I finally caught a bad picture of one of the hyper squirrels through the window just as it was running off. They always run off before I get proof of their existence. Usually they run in pairs. This is one of the few loners. And yes, even though it's not a great pic, I'm sure you can spot the squirrely twitchy tail. They always look angry.
Oh there's more to my day, pasted mostly word for word from IM to Brian -- Ouuuuch! Dutchie is apparently afraid of storms she started crying, came flying across the room, up on couch, skidded into my lap claws out -- now she's hugging my chest. I told her "you know you're a black cat, it's Halloween time. you're supposed to scare people not get scared"
It's only 7 pm. I've got my headache still. Don't think I'll post again here today unless something happens with Lister. For now it seems he's all good, just gotta wait for his test results.
Pilots --
NBC is reporting that those pilots were out of touch for what an hour? because they were using the bathroom and breaking out their laptops for mundane work tasks like looking at work schedules. Uhh... That must have been a hell of a bathroom break and on hell of a complicated work schedule to go over. You're PILOTS. I know that traffic isn't as bad as say LA freeways. But you're operating some sort of a vehicle. You don't friggin have BOTH pilots off peeing and playing solitaire at the same time for an HOUR.
Reid grew a pair?
Senator Reid just announced that there will be a Public Option in his health care bill, with an Opt Out option for states.
October is almost over -
I'm still convinced I'll take part in NaNoWriMo, despite the fact that I've never written a story (maybe in like 1st grade -- back when they forced you to and called it homework). I've been trying to at least think about it. Surely it's not cheating to think ahead. And so far I've come out with a very vague concept -- the three main characters, the general idea of what the story will be, and that's it. I kind of hoped I'd figure out how I'd want to end it as that's actually major I think for what I do with the middle -- but it's not coming to me yet. Hrmph. If you're playing along and are going to give it a go, feel free to add me (DelusionalAngel) as a writing buddy so I can cry over how much faster you write than I do ;) I MIGHT even let a few trusted read what I write if they ask -- though as I said, I've never written a story and expect suckage to occur.
Home
Lister is having surgery tomorrow. His ear was swollen with blood this weekend. They decided he had earmites and shook his head so violently that he burst a blood vessel or something and would be fine -- except he was left with an ear that looks more like a puppy ear than a kitty ear, flopped over. They said to watch it. It keeps filling with blood. So now they they think he has an artery that is open and he needs kitty surgery basically. They have to go in and stitch it up. He may or may not end up left with the puppy floppy ear - the vet has had a kitty with this and it can be permanent. It's both cute and sad when he looks up at you with that ear flopped over. He's not in pain though, so that's good.
They're coming to my apartment in a few hours to green the place up. Well, these apartments are older. They want to upgrade the lighting fixtures and/or bulbs to be energy efficient -- Except they said if you put in newer fixtures those are exempt. Well the people who lived here before us put in the very fixtures that Brian LOVED from IKEA. So they're gonna let us keep those and only change the bathroom stuff (which I suspect means just the bulbs, maybe, not sure -- they are enclosed though and technically not sure you're supposed to use those energy efficient bulbs in those *edit* apparently the way to upgrade fixtures that are enclosed in the ceiling IS to just add new bulbs) and outside stuff. I'm surprised they're changing so much. I thought that it was as early as next year when we could have to move out, since they're gonna tear these down to build newer fancier "we can charge a fortune for waterfront Marina apartments" even though the newer expensive ones next door are all but empty. We're thinking that they're waiting another year to start since they did say 1-5 years and the economy here still sucks so bad, etc.
Doesn't Lister look peaceful while trying to figure out where those birds are? The birds and bugs all torment him. He can't climb or even jump a little to save his life. The other creatures of the world seem to know this so when I take him in the yard the birds seem to chirp more than usual. Moths will fly in front of him, wait a few seconds, fly right back past him. I swear they torment him on purpose. Don't let the big bird feather near him fool you. We end up with bird feathers in our yard a lot. That either happens naturally -- them losing them, or they must fight or squirrels or something. Lister has nothing to do with that. I should have gotten a wider shot of our yard. It's very small but it's like a jungle. A few random bird feathers, all of those leaves, the tree... and then tons of... well see the next picture.
Today is just one of those days where I should be allowed to go back to beginning and do it over.
Woke up before I was totally ready to wake up but noises outside woke me up. '
Then I spent the day having to play mommy to Lister. He was a bad kitty all day. He knows the word no. I tell him no. He looks at me like oh yeah I wasn't gonna do what you're telling me no to. Example -- he keeps trying to jump onto my laptop table. I tell him no just as he's about to. He looks at me with some I'm so cute, no no no I wasn't gonna do THAT, I'm umm just gonna plop down here and cuddle you look. So then I get up to go to the bathroom, come back, he's on the laptop. Etc. Same with the shelves near my desk. No Lister, no climbing in those, so of course, he wasn't gonna climb in those, he was gonna sit in the bottom empty ones. I leave the room, I hear a shatter. I run in there and see he's gotten up into the shelves and has pushed my Eeyore snowglobe to the ground. Finally he's laying down somewhere safe. So I go I sew. Something I was sewing needed one seam torn out so I go to the living room with seam ripper to tear it out and Lister is on the laptop -- set down what I was sewing and go to move Lister and find he's logged me off of the laptop and Brian on. Somehow seam ripper is lost somewhere in the process of this. Still can't find it. That's only about 1/10th of today's chase Lister around stories.
Shot night. Shot was very painful for some reason. I can't see the site very well but Brian said it left a lump.
It really is one of those days I should be allowed to try over. Except with today's luck it'd just go worse so maybe not. Lister is grounded, I'd have gotten a lot more actually done today if I'd not have been chasing him around. Mom said he's being a teenager. Now we love that he's more and more active the longer he's on his tummy meds, but holy bad cat Batman.
Lister had scope done. Seems to confirm it's just a naughty tummy and not something worse. He's home now and doing pretty well consider the rough day or so he's had. Trying to keep him off our stuff. He's climbing on the couch and stuff and erm... Kitty TMI... leaking for a day or two. And wanting to sit on everything. Books, notebooks, papers, especially. Yeah, the cat who never wants to climb on the couch much does now. I think he's trying to get revenge. Mostly he's on the floor though so that's ok.
Dutchie hissed at him once, not even at him yet. She was walking down the stairs as he's getting out of the carrier and starting to walk around and spots him and it was almost like what you brought a new cat here. As though we took Lister away for one day, that confused and upset her, but then she accepted it and now WTF who is this replacement?
Brian told her off, she ran and hid, but now she sort of just ran past him, ignored him, and is curled up next to me. Hopefully we can skip the month of hissing we usually experience when Lister goes to the vet. Or not, she just cuddled Brian, sniffed him, then hissed at him. Well, she's doing better than usual, but still not sure about all of this. Lister however, is running around the house like he's not just been probed and probed.
January 5th, I'm suuuure you'll all remember that we took Lister to the vet and he had to stay overnight because he had serious tummy probs which required three enemas. Today they didn't even have to do x-rays before deciding he had to stay overnight to have enemas done again. We took him again because Brian noticed his tummy twitching again, then while he was outside with us he made sounds like he wanted to throw up (not unusual for a cat), but then when he got inside Brian felt his tummy and he kind of growled (unusual). So when they felt his tummy at the clinic, even without x-rays done yet, they could tell he was FULL -- all of the way full, not just a little like some kitties get when they feel sick but totally full.
They think he has a tummy disorder which can be common but uncomfortable (obviously) and he'll now likely have to be on canned food only along with daily meds. The only other possibilities are things like tumors which could maybe show up on the x-rays but like humans the only way to know for sure if full workups like with scopes, etc. And isn't likely needed so far as they think it's the tummy disorder so meds first. Also if it is the tummy disorder and if meds don't work there is a surgery to be considered lately but so far it sounds like even if meds and canned food doesn't work, Brian can stop blaming himself, some kitties just have tummies that don't want to work right and Lister could be one.
For now though, tonight they're keeping him and getting him cleared out... again. I'm not sure but I think he actually hates the car ride more than the vet. At the vet's office he just looked confused, like huh where am I? He's such a nice kitty he was fine with them carrying him around even while in pain. I told Brian it was lucky for them that it was Lister and not Dutchie (who we were gonna go get fixed during Brian's week off but now it can wait -- she's never gotten outside and she hates all people and animals except for lister so getting her fixed is just so we don't have to listen to her). Dutchie gets really mad when Lister gets home from the vet smelling like other animals, she hisses at him for weeks.
Oh, this clinic is good, bit expensive but is open 24/7 so people are around him always.
