So apparently going on a Friday to a 1st day of Trek geekdom = Trekkies can't get the day off of work because it was fairly quiet. Had my first experience with the stereotypical "I'm a screenwriter / actor" living in LA person. But he was nice and didn't mention working as a waiter ;) But yeah the Trek stuff. We got to do stuff like sit in the captain's chair of the original series with no one else on the "set". They only let one person, well one group of people who are together in to those set exhibits at a time. So going when not many people were there was good. We got more time than they'll get as they get the bigger crowds because when other people came it meant your turn was up. Some of those tv props looks so bad up close. Plastic craft rhinestone things glued on things, glass beads. Magnifying glasses decorated to be "scanners". Yet on tv they somehow work. Kind of like how facades at Universal suddenly look like real houses when you take a picture of them.
So after all of the Trek stuff (pics of it and the ship hotel room when we bother pulling them off the camera) we went and had dinner on the ship. Then we decided to wander around the ship. Usually we just explored the decks. This time we wandered around mostly the inner part of the ship, the hotel part. On top of trekkies there was also a t-shirt convention on one hotel floor with lots of people drinking. We found the pool room which is supposed to be the most haunted part of the ship, but it was locked and had a if you want to see the pool here's now sign next to it -- one of the ways was to join a midnight ghost tour on the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month. Being it was the 3rd one Brian got interested. I didn't think I could handle it as my body was already giving out so I told him he should go. We continued exploring and ended up in places that no one was. It was so cool. One floor we'd never been on before gave me a really bad feeling deep in my gut which I cannot explain, Brian said that floor did feel more curved that the others and was messing with him. Right after I said that we passed a "Ghost sighting" plaque on the wall. No I didn't feel like there was a ghost around but it was weird and I really was glad we were staying on that floor as I never really shook that ugh full of dread feeling whatever it was. I didn't get that anywhere else on the ship.
Then Brian got pranked by the staff. Through the inner parts of the ship are big rooms that were once things like the ticket bureau. On that one it was mostly old looking frosted glass you couldn't see into other than the writing was clear glass so if you peeked in through the writing you could see the room was still as it used to be. Well another such room was just frosted glass, but Brian tried to peek in anyway. Realizing he couldn't see we went to turn down the nearby hall and heard a buzz. Look around and there's a buzzer and a phone next to that room but no one around. Keep walking towards the corner to turn. Buzz. Look back again. Nothing. Turn again, halfway around the corner and the phone rings. Ignore it and walk all the way down the ship, around to the opposite side, all of the way down that side, around back to the side we started on, and past the room with the buzzer again to the elevators. I walk past it. Nothing. Brian does. Buzz. Keep in mind this is a good 1/2 hour later now. So he stands away from the room, as do I while laughing my ass off. Others comes and go. Nothing. I tell Brian now walk by the room again after we've proven tons of people can walk by and nothing happens. He walks towards me, past the room. Buzz. We notice a camera over the phone. He walks back under that and starts making faced into it. Buzz and the phone rings. He answers. They tell him sorry it's just no fun if they don't mess with people.
Then it was getting to be oh close to 9-10 pm. So we went and found out about the paranormal tour thing. $75 and tickets still available. Brian signed up and we went to watch tv until then. Brian left for it at 11:30. By then I was a zombie and passed out cold by midnight. Woke up at 4 when Brian was showering as he went in very dusty parts of the ship he'd never see if not for a special tour like that one. Talked to him for a bit. Went back to bed. Woke up at 9. Trek exhibit had a HUGE line (it was in the old Spruce Goose Dome, not ON the ship). Now I am exhausted.
Brian wants to go on a cruise someday now, maybe when his work on this movie is over. One from here to Mexico wasn't as expensive as he expected.
Anyway this was a long ass entry. zzzzzzz pics and maybe more about what Brian told me about that tour some other time (even though I believe in spirits or something I could explain one or two things he mentioned myself rationally) but *yawn* sooo sore and tired now.
He got the day off for sure, so it's booked and since you can't get your money back without 2 days notice I think he's telling work they're stuck with this guaranteed day off if they try to make him work heh. QM has state rooms like the one in the picture (which we requested) and newer ones. We wanted one like the one pictured. Who the bleeeeeeeeeep goes on a ship with that history and wants to stay in a "modern" room with white walls, etc instead of the ship's old decor?
Subject says it all. Alive and mostly well. Sleep a mess. Exhaustion levels a mess. Laziness level high. Didn't get to work on blog / website at all this weekend. Brian had to work. I've been up since 6 am. Now I am sleepy. I am beyond sleepy. If Brian can get Friday off we're gonna go stay at the Queen Mary overnight if the special Star Trek tour hotel package isn't booked. I'm no Trek fan but he is and we both want to stay a night at the Queen Mary. So we'll see. I haven't even pretended to skim journals the last few days. If you're not known as Brian, Dutchie, Lister, Mijn Favoriet, or T I haven't followed you in days or longer as my brain has been mush. I'll try to catch up soon or at least start reading your journals etc soon. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Long Day. Queen Mary = Beautiful as ever. In need of some repairs I'd say. I noticed a few boards that were loose and a tiny itty bitty spot rusted through. Sad. Still beautiful. I always get such a weird feeling on there. That it was both a luxury liner and a war ship. So much history. Brian and his dad also visited the Russian sub there but by then my body had had enough so I sat that part out and instead stole Brian's sketch pad and drew a girl I'll name Mary, will post her after I make her digital and complete her.
Then dinner.
Wiped out.
Tomorrow Brian takes his dad to the airport.
Would write more. Subject says it all. Well not all. I sore too.
♥ Ik hou van jullie allemaal ♥
Beyond Reality Radio - God Part of the Brain. It's about an hour and 20 minutes, so I wouldn't go listen unless you've got some time to kill or while playing online anyway. The first part is them chatting with a guy who explains why he believes that religion is hard wired into our brains (including his reasons for why some are atheists) and the second part is them explaining why so many paranormal claims can be explained away as normal occurrences and not paranormal at all. They used the term wonky in regards to vision issues! w00t! When my nervous system goes bezerk and causes my vision issues, I find wonky is the only word I can find to explain it ;)
Sadly we're done with Season 2 part 1 of GhostHunters. We have to find the second set for season 2, it seems to be sold out and/or pulled from shelves due to bad audio (we have to have them replace out set 1 from season 2 as it is).
Now for those of you who haven't seen Ghosthunters, I'd describe most on screen members of TAPS as skeptical believers. They believe but also realize there's a lot of claims out there that can be explained as normal. That's why we love them, unlike shows like *cough*Most Haunted*cough* they come off as serious and willing to question their own findings. Well... I happen to <3 The Queen Mary, I've been on it twice, once as a kid and once as an adult. Imagine my delight when, one the set we have, they went to Queen Mary (and Winchester house which I want to go to).
UGH. Brian and I are both pissed that someone tried to manipulate their investigation at Queen Mary. The more time that passed after we watched it, the madder Brian got. TAPS takes claims seriously and tries to find only legit evidence to then explain or say we couldn't find a reason for it. So to have people mess with their equipment to try to get them false "evidence" is sickening. I agree with Brian's theory on who did it. Never did have a good feeling about that person anyway. Still... argh.
I want to go to the Queen Mary Ghostfest 2006 next month. I doubt that will happen but parts of it sound cool.
Do you believe in ghosts? Have you ever seen a ghost?

I believe I answered that when I answered the An Unforgettable Home QOTD. If I believe I lived in a haunted building, I'd say yes. I never saw anything personally, others who were not the types to fake being scared seemed to see things they they wouldn't talk about years later. Others who were not the types to make things up claimed to see similar things. I felt something wasn't right on the 3rd floor but never witnessed anything. I believe to this day that old hospital is haunted.
Last year for my birthday we went to The Queen Mary, which is reported to be haunted. Again, didn't see anything, but as we started our self guide tour Brian asked me "Do you smell that?", that question may seem normal but coming from Brian it's not, he's basically the smell version of blind. He smells virtually nothing. There are a few smells he can smell but in general he has NO sense of smell. So when he asked me that, my reply was "No" and I raised my eyebrows at it like "wtf?" since he's never questioned me about smells except maybe to ask if something that he can't smell smells bad. As we wandered on, out to the side of the ship looking over the water I got a strong whiff of sea water and told him that was probably what he smelled, he couldn't smell that.
We went on our merry way and didn't think about that again until we visited the bridge of the ship. In one room located in the bridge there is a plaque talking about hauntings in that room, still nothing. But then in the room with all of the controls, I stop dead in my tracks and it was my turn to ask Brian "Do you smell that?" He did not. I stood there trying to figure out what it was, it went away quickly. I pretty much walked around the room SNIFFING the air like an idiot (by then the only person in there with us had walked out). Nothing. Then it happened again a few feet from where it originally happened and went away again quickly. I have never been able to come up with a way to describe the smell, it smelled like nothing I've ever smelled before or since and Brian with almost no sense of smell has nothing to reference it to.
I chalked it up to it being an old ship but it was nagging at me, that it was something weird. Then on the way home Brian informs me that some hauntings have smells associated with them. I've heard that a few time since then on ghost hunter shows, but before that I had no idea that was the case. Once he said that, and I asked him if he was sure that smells were associated with these things, it clicked with me that it was the correct answer. I'm sure many would disagree but I am sure it was not a normal smell and once I got over the "yeah right a ghost SMELL?" thoughts I was convinced that is somehow connected to the activity on the QM (how it is connected, I don't know).
Our "Orb" picture from there that amused Brian greatly since he's pretty much anti-orb pics.
