So, I watched V, a remake of this V show -- one of my favorites from childhood. Initial thoughts =
~ I'm kind of surprised they didn't do a 2 hour premiere.
~ It's definitely not a true to the original remake, which is either really good or bad. Last I read, the creators of the original were still trying to get their own projects done continuing the original. That could confuse the hell out of people who only end up knowing this version.
~ It has potential. I'm not a sci-fi show kinda girl. For the most part the only sci-fi shows that I can think of that I've really liked are probably... hmm, um, yeah hmm just the original of this one. There's been a few shows that I've liked that got called sci-fi, but weren't really. Like Red Dwarf. I think of it as more of a comedy. Voyagers was even listed in sci-fi. Okay they time travel, beyond that, uhh.. not really. So, we'll see. It was familiar enough that I watched going "un huh, I know what you sneaky Visitors are up to" but at the same time, different characters and so slightly different plots from the original... which leads to the big WTF?
I read some boards online and then I almost banged my head on something, except my head already hurts so I decided that was a bad idea. Holy stupid friggin political teabagging lunatics Batman. Now, I love ranting about politics, it's fun. But ya know, when I'm watching a show about aliens who come in peace, but not really -- I don't assume it's about Obama and his socialist agenda. Sometimes a tv show is just a tv show. I mean I don't read my Superman comics and think wow this guy is JUST like those friggin corporate whores the Republicans always defend. OMFG, Lex Luthor is totally a Republican. So Superman is totally a Democrat and and... OMG so... Yeah it's friggin just good entertainment. Just because they added the dumb line about socialized medicine because you dumbasses would understand that... Even in the original they offered us stuff... OMFG now that I think of it the original -- people said that was about NAZIS!!! Everyone says Obama is a NAZI! The current V is supposed to be about Obama? We've come full circle! Or something. And that something is that people are a bunch of crackpots. The show was just entertaining, I'll give it another shot. So far it doesn't seem like they totally bastardized my childhood though I suspect it won't be nearly as cool as the original.
I have some of the books that I never did get around to reading, but had bought used when the dvds of the original series came out. Maybe when I get through my current to read list I'll finally read those.
Still having probs finding energy but feeling a LITTLE better otherwise. So while not feeling great sticking to entertainment, nothing much in the news anyway -- same old same old they wanna force me to buy insurance that will still cost more for me alone that it will cost the typical family of four and won't cover my MS stuff at that price, they'll just not deny me based on MS. I'll just lose the med program I have in the process since I'll be insured. Nice reform.
Watched Heroes season premiere yesterday. Eh, still not sure I love or hate that show. It has its moments where it draws me in and then.... boring as can be. I think I mostly just like Hiro and Sylar and the rest *yawn*
Finished reading American Gods. Loved it though even if it was a bit hard to follow at times.
Am now 100 or so pages into Dark Visions: The Strange Power; The Possessed; The Passion which is just what I expect from an L.J. Smith book -- a quick urban fantasy read.
Haven't been feeling so hot this week so all I've done is read as it requires no effort beyond sitting down and well, reading. And well remember I'd had those Amazon gift cards so I'd had 5 books delivered just recently.
Reunion (The Mediator, Book 3), Darkest Hour (The Mediator, Book 4)
, Haunted (The Mediator, Book 5)
, and The Mediator #6: Twilight
read. So I've completed the Mediator series. Pretty good for a YA series. There were a few quirks here and there, but all paranormal series or YA series have a few moments that make you go oh geez so I could live with those rare moments since it was a pretty good series overall.
Onto the final book of that shipment: American Gods: A Novel.
Last night I watched The Vampire Diaries premiere. Interesting. I've read the books. I was telling Brian that there's times when you kind of watch a movie or tv show and you expect they're gonna change it some -- and then there's times like this one. I was watching and thinking well they got the main character names right and oh he's a vampire and he's got a ring and a brother and there's the bird... and hmm so far that looks like it's about it. Well the girl stuff of course. Just a lot of the major stuff... so different. Stuff even someone like me with a crap memory is looking at going wow that's not even close to the book. New character or a character that is nothing like the one in the book, etc. So, I'm not saying it's good or bad or whatever. It could actually mean that later when the series went a bit weird they can fix that. And the stuff that is good they can leave that in. They definitely are leaving the main aspect of the storyline - Two vampire brothers who are totally different from each other move to town and have an interest in a girl. Won't spoil beyond that in case they do stick to the books some ;)
And now I'm gonna watch last night's Project Runway off the dvr since my usual morning show is off air so they can re-air the "live" 9/11 coverage which I've seen a million times already.
My sleep has been screwed up, so I slept through the speech. I'll watch it later. Thanks to Twitter I know that some guy named Joe Wilson yelled out liar during it, spoiler!!! heh. Umm, aren't our elected officials supposed to act more grown up than the idiots at town halls have been? They should know to sit and listen to a speech by the president without yelling out like jackasses on national tv, no? Is the next move they start punching each other? I bet C-Span's ratings would go up anyway. Whatever, he's already apologized. In other words, I just wanted attention. S. Carolina politicians are gonna get reps as being nuttier than anywhere else if this keeps up, they got the Governor that disappeared to visit his mistress too don't they?
I swear if they say they're good conservative family men, don't believe the hype. Another one is as sleazy as it gets and resigns here is California. None of our business except he goofed and told us all at which time it apparently became a distraction and oh it seems one of the women may have been someone who worked as a lobbyist appearing before his committee. *sigh*
Then I tried to figure out why Ellen was a Twitter topic. She's replacing Paula on American Idol? Interesting.
ooh tomorrow is Vampire Diaries premiere, yay! I was kind of thinking / hoping it was Office premiere night too since they re-aired last season's finale last week, but it appears not. Darn.
So I thought I'd check out the Fall tv schedule as listed here. For some reason that is only network tv and excludes cable so shows I watch like Mythbusters and Ghosthunters are not included. So, let us run down what interests me on network television then:
Monday: Heroes (and it's on thin ice given the way it's last few seasons have gone).
Tuesday: Shark Tank is okay'ish.
Wednesday: L&O:SVU except that's when Mythbusters AND Ghosthunters are both on so I'll probably only watch it when they're repeats since they moved it's time slot to give Leno 10 every night of the week when L&O used to be on.
Thursday: Vampire Diaries, maybe Parks and Recreation (still on the fence about it), The Office
Friday: Smallville, L&O, Medium
Saturday: Oh look they'll repeat L&O: SVU
Sunday: Desperate Housewives
To recap, nothing new looks good. The only new show I've added to my line up is Vampire Diaries and that's because I read those books and it took over Smallville's time slot. Network television mostly sucks. All of those shows listed and that's ALL I wanna watch. Good job. Bring back Earl you jackasses.
Las Vegas really wants California businesses to relocate. Really wants them. Don't believe me?
When I'm not being bombarded with ads by the insurance companies telling me how great bi-partisan reform will be which mandates that I buy their insurance (yeah really great when I lose my program that gets me my Rebif), I'm seeing this lipstick on a pig ad, this monkey business one, and this rotten apples one. I'll give Las Vegas credit -- I've never seen a city try to steal a whole state's business so aggressively because really I see the insurance company wants me to believe their insurance reform plan is great ad most, then these, then normal ads. I know LV was hit almost as hard as us, if not harder, in the housing market stuff, than we were. Is this their way of saying look CA is a lost cause so umm hurry up and come save us before we end up the way you did. Of course we have one of the few industries that didn't get affected as negatively as others did during the sucky economy aka "Hollywood" (most of which isn't IN Hollywood) so I can see wanting to target California. Despite the state being broke there's still a LOT of businesses worth a LOT of money here. Good luck getting all of them to move.
Though I must admit some of those HORRIBLE Bravo reality shows have hooked me late at night. I don't really want to admit that though. Seriously, they're terrible. Actually, to be honest I can't watch most of them, but that damn NYC prep one I watch it and it's truly horrible. The others I watch on Bravo aren't as bad Top Chef. Semi watched Fashion Show (bad but not horrible --- just a bad Project Runway ripoff). Etc. So far the only new tv I am looking forward to is The Vampire Diaries to see how badly they ruin the books (previews look like they might not get it right -- but it's taking Smallville's time slot sooo...) and V if it ever airs to see how badly they mutilate one of my favoriet shows from when I was a kid (and some of the only sci-fi I've liked - I'm very picky about sci-fi). As you can tell I have low expectations for both. Actually when it comes to Vampire Diaries I hope they do stray from the books some, there's one book that needs to be forgotten. As for V... I don't know -- it looks okay'ish. But we'll see. There has been talk of a movie in the works forever by people involved with the original though and I'd be more excited about that.
He's only a year older than Keegan! When asked what he'd do if he won the million he said he'd have his mom quit her job so he could spend more time with her and after they complimented him and told him he was going to Vegas he had tears in his eyes. Too sweet.
I've found the worst celebs ever:
I'll freely admit most music in my collection is older, some quite embarrassing. I'll even admit that I'm currently addicted to teenage vampire books. I'll admit that when at B&N, I head straight for comic books instead of other books. I have no shame. But I finally found something that I AM embarrassed to admit! I've watched some of I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here. A complete boring wreck of a show. How in the hell did that Heidi and Spencer couple get "famous"? That MTV show they're on -- people watch them on that? I've never seen it, but people can watch a full season of a show they're on? They make me want to vomit. No wonder why people hate California. If I didn't live here and only saw them to represent what California is like, I'd hate this state too. Please please please someone who earned their fame, who is actually famous FOR something, bump into them somewhere -- ask who them who the hell they are and perhaps slap some sense into them, or just slap them -- whatever. No talent people who think they're the most famous people ever with HUGE egos = annoying. Fake Christians who do nothing but pretend to be good while clearly acting anything but good? They're beyond annoying and give my truly good religious friends a bad name.
Stupid Boycott:
There is apparently a movement to boycott GM cars because we shouldn't buy "socialist cars". If you don't want to buy a GM car then don't, if you do then do. I think we should have let them stand or fail on their own, yes. I think bailouts are stupid, yes. I think losing the jobs is bad, yes. But you know what else I think is stupid? People saying they like GM cars and want to buy them but won't because they want Obama to fail or won't buy "socialist cars". If you like and want to buy GM cars FOR REAL, then do it. If you don't then don't. Don't be jackasses. If you're not buying a GM car it's because you weren't going to, don't even lie. It's not because you hate Obama or because GM is now making "socialist" cars. It's because you weren't gonna buy one of their cars.
Colbert rocks:
I slept from 9 last night until 8 this morning due to skipping a day of sleep due to Mr. Pain Alien still being active. Anyway I missed Colbert so watched it today on Hulu. HE ROCKS! I laughed more than I should have as he had Obama pop up on the screen ordering them to shave his head if he was going to "play soldier" for his trip to Iraq. And his jokes about how often they get sent over there, etc. Wow. Declaring victory. ahh How can you not love Colbert? .
