No matter what you think of Michael Moore, I am posting this mostly because he has a voice that is so much louder than mine. He's heard by so many more people than mine is on my silly LJ and VOX... and what he said about the choice of Palin and what they're trying to say about women = YAY! Thanks Michael Moore for calling them out.
Because I know mom doesn't have HBO and because at the end of New Rules he champions John Edwards and points out what we missed by not having him at the DNC...
8 years ago Obama couldn't even get into the DNC. Tonight he gave a speech that McCain cannot top. In fact the McCain camp released a response that MSNBC has read on air in its entirety only once (rare) and that had them basically scratching their heads in a "uhh huh?" sort of way and which left their commentators basically saying well we're sure they'll have a coherent response tomorrow. Yeah... They didn't even know how to respond, his speech was that good. I mean even Pat Buchanan praised Obama tonight. He did everything: he explained why his life has been anything but that of the celebrity they try to paint him as, he gave details about what he wants to do for the country, he challenged claims about him not being patriotic, he attacked every main issue he feels McCain is wrong on (including bashing him by saying McCain says he'll chase Osama bin Laden to hell but not to his cave). You name it he covered it, often in detail.
I'll be watching the Republican convention next week and I guarantee I'll be bored out of my mind and probably angry when they tell me what a horrible person I am through the whole thing. One of McCain's staffers was on MSNBC this week a lot talking about negative Dems would be that day and how they'd never be so negative. I promise you the RNC will be very negative. They cannot pull off what the DNC did. It was more positive than negative. It was uplifting. And just wow. And yeah I am a Democrat but even Pat Buchanan is saying wow tonight. Can McCain have that effect on Dem types next week, I doubt it. Hmm I think I still have some alcohol in the fridge from the last time we drank. I bet if I take HALF A SIP each time McCain says "My Friends" in his speech next week I can be plastered by the end of it.
So to sum up the DNC -- All of the biggest names in the Democratic party want you to vote for Obama, of course. For me the most moving endorsement? John Lewis. Don't know John Lewis? You probably wouldn't unless you're older than I am, known more about the civil rights movement than MLK, Jr., or watch more political coverage than I do. But you should. He's a rep in Georgia. Not relevant? How about he was once bloodied by the police while leading a peaceful march during the civil rights movement in Selma...
Sleep: So my body could take no more of the MS exhaustion + lack of sleep and I passed out -- not slept, just passed out at about 9:30 pm. We know that means I was sick'ish. I don't sleep at night. I woke up at 5 am, when I'm usually falling asleep. My body is quite confused but I slept, and I had a dream but all I remember is drunk midgets in a drug store offering people shots of whiskey. Look I dunno... it was weird.
DNC night 1 = success. TAKE THAT Republicans. Ted Kennedy = WOW. Michelle Obama, cliche here but Home Run is the only way to describe it.
Misc Politics: Ohh goodie some white supremacy meth heads wanted to kill Obama. Story here. It wasn't a credible threat of course. They were sort of wishy washy with their plans. Yeah because they're using meth. People on meth are friggin nuts, duh. Have you ever experienced someone on meth? They might have killed him, they might have gone to clean their houses from top to bottom at 4 am.
Have you seen the ad with the chick saying I am a Hillary Clinton supporter and I'm for McCain, blah blah blah. It's ok Democrats you can vote for McCain? Well here you go:
McCain fails a leader, any respect I could have had for him is now GONE:
Also, McCain was on Leno... Leno jokingly asked him for a million dollars how many houses do you own. He went in a spiel about how look I was a POW without a house or a table... blah freaking blah. Ok... Once upon a time McCain was one of the only Republicans I actually respected. It's gone now. I no longer respect him at all. Period. It's gone. I don't even respect that he was a POW. That respect is totally GONE now too PERIOD. I used to be able to respect that. No longer. Because HE doesn't respect it. Yes, being a POW and being tortured is an answer for some things. NOT FOR EVERYTHING. Injuries and medical problems it caused you so you understand some things people face there? Hey fair enough. Going through tough times and surviving them, etc. But HE doesn't even respect that about himself, he totally spits all over this own story. Saying THAT is why you forgot how many condos you own 30 some years later? Milking something you went through all of those years ago to get votes? Something others went through too and turning it into a joke at this point? Sickening.
Well, I was raped err however many years ago, so I guess I hate you because I can break that out as an excuse to hate any man I want to any time I want and then put it back in the background when it won't get me pity or justify me wanting to bash a male. That's ok, right? That's the kind of leader you are? You're telling me it's ok to use and abuse and manipulate the tough times that people go through in life and to twist them for pity when it suits us? You make me ill. You're a grown man, act like one. You're not still in a POW camp. That camp has NOTHING to do with your 7 houses and being so rich you forgot how many of them you had. You're not a leader. You're a pathetic excuse for a man. Ted Kennedy who is facing tough times, who sucked it up, flew across the country when he probably should not have, to stand there and give us a speech filled with hope, to promise us he'd fight for us no matter what he's facing, to talk of the future, not his present or past, THAT is a leader.
It's ok to express anger and frustration about things you have gone through and yes you have permanent damage from your experiences and you learn from them. But you've abused it now and so now even your legitimate complaints and pains from what you went through are meaningless to me and you've made them that way.
It is Bill Maher, so there's some "language"....
Chris Wallace, also of FOX called them out too:
